On the Cutting Edge

An acquaintance declared that in order to attract new readers, blogs, books, webpages, needed to be on the cutting edge. I'm still mulling over that odd statement. What exactly is the cutting edge?

Whatever it is, apparently I don't have it. And I'm not sure that I want it. I suspect that this particular individual meant that the blog, etc., etc., needed to be shocking or offensive or rude. There are people who have those features, but I am not one of them. I can't even be controversial when my friend Janet challenges me to do so. Sigh. I don't think I have a cutting edge.

Now if someone challenged me to be nice I could probably manage that. I can be thoughtful, funny, sad, happy, even irritated. I just don't think I can manage that cutting edge. So if you're one of those people looking for a cutting edge, this isn't the place to find it.

  1. Anny,

Those people who are on the cutting edge probably get more traffic for a period of time. When people realize that what they are doing is not contributing anything good to their lives, they will eventually either drop them, or tear themselves down. I feel sorry for them.

You however contribute, provoke thought, help others, build hope, and teach. Even those who are busy, make the time to come back whenever possible. I prefer you just the way you are. DON'T CHANGE.

  2. People who dance on the cutting edge are more likely to fall over. I don't see a point in being controversial to be controversial. If you feel strongly, go for it. If not, for heaven's sake don't fake it. Besides, we love your blog exactly the way it is.

  3. I think people who say things like 'cutting edge' also say things like '24-7'...it means nothing - its just a catch phrase. Rule number 1 - be yourself...you do that well

  5. I hereby challenge you to be thoughtful, sad, cheerful and irritated in a single blog without using headers to start them off. Just segue smoothly between emotions. ;)

  7. That's because you are the Zen Queen. Zen is about balance, not about edges. And the balance you provide helps all of us on a daily basis. The world has enough sharp edges. Balance is rare.
