Text this!

What is the attraction to texting? I can barely press the keys to make a phone call. Texting is waaaaay beyond my capabilities. Making a phone call is a two handed, two eyed process for me that requires every bit of my concentration.

Texting? I would need complete quiet. That's not something I would want to do in a moving vehicle, let alone while driving down the street. For many years the authorities have known that distractions such as fussing children, music, and arguing can lead to accidents. How much more distraction would texting be?

How many people will have to die or suffer injuries before a law is enacted making texting while driving illegal? I suspect the price will be pretty high. We seem to be a mulish species, determined to have our own way until we are personally affected by something. Then suddenly, we do a three-sixty, converted by tragedy where we could not be convinced by logic.

Let us hope the price isn't too high in the end.

  1. I don't care for texting. I like actual speech. It used to be so popular

  2. We all know it will take many tradegies before it becomes illegal. I've almost been hit by several different teens either texting or talking on the phone.

  3. My kids' fingers just FLY over the eensy tiny keyboards and I honestly don't know how they do it. As to doing it while DRIVING??? OMG, that's just scary.

  4. I don't have texting on my phone. But all my kids do. They do not text while driving, thank God!

  5. ...or those individuals who then chuckle, read off their text like I cared, and frantically type a response... in the middle of a conversation about something else entirely.

One more way our culture has become bred to rudeness.

  6. I prefer texting to talking, but then I've always preferred the written word to verbal. Often I want to say things to my hubby or the kids I don't want anyone else to overhear. But I don't agree with texting while driving. That's insane.

  7. A few months ago, Maryland legislators passed a law against texting. They voted down the law against cell phone use in the car --dumb. I have noticed that the law has not deterred many from still texting. I try to avoid anyone I see with a cell phone in their hand.

  8. We've had several accidents where I live because of people texting and driving. It's been all over the news. It's crazy. You can't text and watch the road at the same time. People are losing their lives for the sake of sending a message.

  9. I agree with your thoughts! How the heck can you text, drive, watch the road at the same time? I leave voicemail for people and don't text. Please. Phones keep getting smaller and my fingers don't shrink so I have a hard time pressing keys as it is!
