Rain on the Roof

Tomorrow Traveller's Refuge is released from Ellora's Cave. I'm antsy from waiting and have found that the best thing is to keep busy so I've been writing.

Stalled with Daffodil so I began a new work in progress. It starts with a plane crash in a storm. Well, I was sitting here in the AC with the sun shining brightly trying to conjure up the necessary atmosphere for a storm when a thundering crash overhead shook the building. I looked up and realized that a storm had rolled in while I was busy writing.

Thunder boomed, lightning cracked and water poured out of the sky like God had turned the spigot on full blast. I savored the height of the storm, jotting down notes for the story. My dog has just about panted herself dry. She is terrified of storms. And this one doesn't seem ready to stop.

I went over to the Weather Channel website and discovered that it's a huge storm covering a large chunk of Pennsylvania, Maryland and West Virginia. So I guess we'll have rain for a while yet. That's okay. We need rain. We have straw growing in the front yard and wilting trees which make me sad. There must be something weird about me because I love rain.

I especially love rain when you wake up in the morning and it's all gray and dreary and it says "all day long"... because then you just curl up and go back to sleep. Those are the kind of days I like best. Of course, I have the luxury of not having to leave my apartment and I understand that others do have to go out in the wet. So did I for a lot of long years. But for all of you that have to be in the rain... your day will come.

I have friends and acquaintances who haven't had rain in forever. Because of them, I'm incredibly thankful that we have the rain. I don't take it for granted. I don't complain or belly ache about it. It's a gift from God that's precious beyond measure. And I pray that my friends will have the joy of rain someday very soon. Enough rain to fill Amarinda's water tank. Enough rain to make Helen's flowers grow. Enough rain that they won't have to limit their showers to three minutes... maybe they'll be able to take six or seven!

In the meantime, I'll sit here with the door open and enjoy the scent and taste and sound of the rain.

  1. Water. It usually falls out of a cloudy sky. Don't worry. One day you'll get to see it.
