As some of you may remember, we recently said goodbye to our dog, Woobie. We also have a cat. Sammie is positive that we've done something unscrupulous to the dog. At first she ignored us. But lately she's taken up a couple of new behaviors.
A couple weeks ago, we went to Sam's Club to pick up a few things. I found a nice sturdy box to pile our smaller item in because they don't provide grocery bags. We carted the food inside when we finally arrived home (it was a looooong day of shopping). Two or three days later I finally finished emptying the box. At which time, Sammie appropriated the box for herself. That's her box! She now sleeps in the box next to my desk while I'm writing--up to a certain point.
At the point that she decides that I've written enough, she hops up on the desk and drapes herself over my left wrist, leaning all of her body weight on my arm so that its very difficult to type. And then she purrs.
If I ignore her long enough, she starts rubbing her head against my belly in an "Ah, mom..." kind of move. "Let's just turn out the lights and go to bed!"
Of course, she can be bribed. If the househunk comes out to the dining room and offers her treats, she out of here like a shot. After all, a treat is a treat. And a cat has to take treats when they're offered. Who knows? It might not happen again for a while.
I used to keep a bowl of water for her next to her food bowl, but our cat isn't into anything so pedestrian as a water bowl. Nope. She prefers to drink out of our table top fountain. She likes the sound of the burbling water, running over the stones. So every day I refill the fountain.
Animals are interesting additions to our homes, aren't they?
Well, she's back with as much of her body as possible planted on my arm. "Mo-m! It's time to go to bed!"

Ok, I feel I have to point this out to you - you are not the cat's mother. Sorry - but there it is. Unless the cat is a shapeshifter and really is a hot man...that would make sitting on your hand and all the devotion something waaaay different. Please advise if you are keeping a shapeshifter in a box.
ReplyDeletePlaying with your colour schemes some more? I like it
What a sweet face!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I could write without Mouse sitting behind me, purring. When he's ready for bed he hops off the chair so my back gets cold and gives me one of those looks that only cats can manage.
My cat won't drink out of a bowl either. We have to fill a tall glass with water and place it upstairs away from her bowl. There she will lap at the water until her nose doesn't fit the glass. If you happen to be drinking water on the couch, or milk, she'll be over to try and get some.
ReplyDeleteOther things she loves... lemons, anything soy sauce flavored, asian fried noodles, whipped cream. Of course this is the same cat that would drink out of the lou if we didn't always keep the lids down. Yuck.
One of my cats would purr and rub against any book I was reading if he wanted attention. If I continued to ignore him, he would swat at it until I either held it with one hand or put it down altogether and scoop him up.
ReplyDeleteAnny, your Sammie is adorable. You are so lucky to be able to keep your Sammie in your apartment. My building forbids pets and our Wendy stayed in Cincinnati when we moved. I still feel guily for giving her away, a rotten mother who abandonned her last one.
ReplyDeleteNimue, our oldest, meows for us to turn the bathtub faucet on so she can drink out of the tub. She has my sons trained perfectly. :)
ReplyDeleteSammie is very sweet, btw.
Amarinda is wrong! I am the mommie of two terribly spoiled toy poodles who have me well trained. And I wouldn't trade them for anything.

"Amarinda is wrong!" Hmmm, I am unaware of what the phrase means.
ReplyDeleteAww, Sammie's beautiful. Sorry about Woobie:(
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet cat! My Cleo (Maine Coon) also likes to stomp onto the desk when I am writing. Fortunately she doesn't lie on my wrists. Waving her tail to obscure the screen is her thing...
